PRINCETON, N.J. – Following strong performances in Week 3 of the Ivy League football season, Yale’s Nolan Grooms (Offensive), Harvard’s AJ Lopez (Defensive), Penn’s Albert Jang (Special Teams) and Dartmouth’s Owen Zalc (Rookie) earned weekly honors.
Lopez was named the FedEx Ground FCS National Defensive Player of the Week by Stats Perform for his showing in No. 24 Harvard’s 38-28 win over No. 5 Holy Cross. The Crimson jumped up five spots in the AFCA Coaches Poll to No. 19 in the FCS. The Crimson also entered the Stats Perform media poll, earning the No. 21 ranking.
Princeton and a Dartmouth won tightly contested league games this weekend. The Tigers topped Columbia, 10-7, using a 20-play, 81-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter. After Penn scored 10 points in the final six minutes of play to force overtime, Zalc connected on a 37-yarder to give the Big Green the 23-20 win. All four league games this season have been decided by three or fewer points.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nolan Grooms, Yale QB
- Threw for a career-high 363 yards and four touchdowns in Yale's 45-3 victory over Morgan State
- Also made an impact with his feet, rushing for a team-high 87 yards on just nine carries
- His 450 yards of total offense tied for the fifth most in a single game in school history
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
AJ Lopez, Harvard DB
- Recorded his first interception of his career and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown in Harvard’s win over Holy Cross
- Also forced a fumble in the fourth quarter to eliminate chances of a Holy Cross comeback
- Recorded five tackles in the win
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Albert Jang, Penn K/P
- Drilled a 51-yard field goal to force overtime against Dartmouth with numerous yards to spare
- The field goal was his first career attempt and is just the 30th 51+ yard field goal in Ivy League history
- Had three punts that averaged 43.3 yards
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Owen Zalc, Dartmouth K
- Was 3-for-4 on field goal attempts in Dartmouth’s overtime win over Penn
- Connected on a game-winning 37-yard field goal
- 2-for-2 on PAT attempts
