PRINCETON, N.J. – The Ivy League volleyball season is set to start on Friday, Sept. 2 with all eight teams beginning their 2022 campaigns. Below are a few of the top storylines heading into the season.
TALENT RETURNING
The League returns a staggering 81 percent of its all-Ivy honorees from last season, with 17 of its 21 all-conference players suiting up this fall. Additionally, all major award winners and the entire first team are back this season.
HIGH EXPECTATIONS
In the preseason poll, reigning Ivy League champion Brown was voted the preseason favorite. After going 13-1 in Ivy play to claim their first Ivy title since 2001, the Bears garnered 14, of 16 possible, first place votes in the poll. Princeton and Yale were picked to finish second and third respectively. Just three votes separated Harvard and Dartmouth for the fourth place spot, with Crimson owning the advantage.
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS
With a heavy volume of talent returning, the league will look to carry over its non-conference success from last year. Princeton, Yale and Dartmouth each boasted non-conference winning percentages of .750 or higher. Collectively, Ivies posted a .561 winning percentage against non-league opponents.
TOURNAMENT TIME
The inaugural Ivy Women’s Volleyball Tournament set to take place the weekend of Nov. 18-20. The top four teams in the Ivy standings will earn a spot in the tournament, which will be hosted by the No. 1 overall seed.
