PRINCETON, N.J. – Reigning Ivy League volleyball champion, Brown was named the preseason favorite in the 2022 Ivy League Preseason Volleyball Poll. The poll was voted on by a panel of media members and sports information directors from across the league.
The Bears earned 126 points in the poll and garnered 14 first place votes, after claiming the conference crown with a 13-1 league mark last season for the first time since 2001 and the fifth time in program history. Brown players made up five of the seven First Team All-Ivy selections and swept the major awards. The Bears return all of their All-Ivy honors for this season.
Princeton, the only other team to receive first place votes with two, was ranked second in the preseason poll. The Tigers, which finished second in the league last year with a 10-4 conference record, return four of their five all-Ivy honorees from a year ago.
Yale earned 89 points which was selected third in the poll. Coming off a 9-5 Ivy record, the Bulldogs were the only team to defeat Brown last year.
The battle for fourth place was tight between Harvard and Dartmouth. The Crimson took fourth with 73 points, which was three more than the Big Green.
The real battle for the fourth will take greater significance once the season gets underway with the inaugural Ivy Women’s Volleyball Tournament set to take place the weekend of Nov. 18-20. The top four teams in the Ivy standings will earn a spot in the tournament, which will be hosted by the No. 1 overall seed.
Rounding out the poll was Penn with 52 points, Cornell with 33 and Columbia with 23.
The league returns a staggering 81 percent of its all-Ivy honorees from last season, including all seven first team members.
All eight programs begin their 2022 campaigns on Friday, Sept. 2. Ivy play commences on Friday, Sept. 23.
