Nathan Han and Princeton’s
William Huang received the Ivy League men’s golf postseason awards following a vote of the league’s seven head coaches.
Yale’s
Colin Sheehan was named the Ivy League Coach of the Year, Columbia sophomore
Nathan Han was selected as Player of the Year and Princeton freshman
William Huang was tabbed as Rookie of the Year.
Han posted the second-best scoring average in the Ivy League this season at 71.96 through 26.5 rounds. The Somers, N.Y. native averaged 0.75 strokes under par while posting eight top-20 finishes, including seven top-10 finishes. He finished tied for fourth at the 2022 Ivy League Men’s Golf Championship at the Century Country Club, shooting +8 to claim First-Team All-Ivy accolades.
He is Columbia’s third golfer to earn Player of the Year honors since the award was first instituted in 2009, joining
Brandon Jowers (2014) and
Harrison Shih (2016).
Huang finished the 2022 Ivy League Men’s Golf Championship tied for ninth place at ten-over-par for the 54 holes to earn himself a spot on Second-Team All-Ivy. The Exeter, N.H. native consistently positioned himself in the top-ten golfers in the league with a 73.14 scoring average through 18 rounds. He posts three top-20 finishes while boasting a league-high two tournament wins.
Huang is the third Tiger to reap Rookie of the Year honors since the award was first handed out in 2009, joining
Quinn Prchal (2013) and
Max Ting (2019).
Sheehan is the back-to-back Ivy League Coach of the Year after earning the honors in 2019 by leading Yale to a third-place finish. At the 2022 Ivy League Men’s Golf Championship, Sheehan led Yale to claim the team and individual crown. The Bulldogs shot a tournament low +35 over the three rounds.
Yale was the lone Ivy to produce three All-Ivy golfers (1 First-Team, 2 Second-Team), while Columbia was the lone Ivy to place two golfers on All-Ivy First-Team. Princeton was the only other Ivy with two golfer obtaining All-Ivy honors. Six-of-seven golf programs are represented on the two All-Ivy teams.
The All-Ivy teams are based on the results from the Ivy League Men’s Golf Championship. The top five finishers, including ties, are recognized as First Team All-Ivy golfers, while the next five finishers, including ties, are honored as Second Team All-Ivy recipients.
Additionally, one student-athlete from each institution was recognized for their commitment in the classroom and on the court as members of the 2021-22 Ivy League Men's Golf Academic All-Ivy team. Columbia's
