BOSTON – Top-seeded Princeton and No. 2 seed Yale advanced to the 2022 Ivy League Men’s Basketball Tournament Championship, presented by TIAA, after thrilling wins today over Cornell and Penn, respectively.
Both teams face off in the title game tomorrow at Noon ET on ESPN2 inside Lavietes Pavilion.
Princeton 77, Cornell 73
Tosan Evbuomwan’s late basket with less than a minute to go vaulted the Tigers into the Ivy League Championship game tomorrow. His 21 points on 10-of-18 shooting with six rebounds played a crucial role in the team’s win, along with Jaelin Llewellyn’s game-high 23 points and Ethan Wright’s 12 – which rounded out the team’s double-digit scoring.
Cornell finished with four players in double figures in Dean Noll (13), Sarju Patel (13), Nazir Williams (12) and Kobe Dickson (10).
Overall, Princeton shot 51.7 percent from the floor and 44 percent from beyond the arc, while the Big Red tallied a 48.5 percent mark from the floor and 40 percent from three.
The Tigers opened on an 8-0 run on Llewellyn’s three. Princeton then extended its lead to 12 with a pair of threes at the 17:14 mark. From there, the Tigers led by as much as 32-16, but Cornell showed some spark with a 9-0 run that followed. From there, Princeton held on to a 40-35 lead at the half.
The Big Red took its momentum into the second half and opened on a 7-0 run, and eventually led 42-40. With just under 11 minutes to play, the score was tied at 55-all. Later on in the final stretch of the game and just under 40 seconds to play, tied 73-73, Evbuomwan made the go-ahead layup. That proved to be crucial as fellow teammate Ryan Langborg knocked down two from the charity stripe to seal the 77-73 win.

Yale 67, Penn 61
Yale and Penn faced off in another Saturday semifinal that went down to the wire inside Lavietes Pavilion. Azar Swain led the way for the Bulldogs with a scorching 5-for-8 mark from three en route to a team-high 25 points. Matt Knowling was the other Bulldog that reached double figures with 10 points and seven rebounds.
For Penn, Jordan Dingle tallied a game-high 28 points on 12-for-25 shooting, followed by teammate Nick Spinoso with 14 points. From the floor, Yale shot 48.1 percent and 42.9 percent from three, while the Quakers were 39.7 percent shooting and 30.8 percent from deep.
Yale jumped out to a 10-4 lead, but the Quakers responded and regained a 16-15 lead on a Spinoso three at the 10:27 mark in the first half. Both teams exchanged baskets for the next five minutes until an EJ Jarvis dunk extended Yale’s lead to 27-24 with 4:40 left in the half. Penn tied it at 29-all late in the half, but a Swain three extended the Bulldogs’ lead to 32-29.
The second half included a 9-0 Yale run over a three minute span that extended their lead to 44-35 with 14:49 to go. Down eight, Penn refused to go away and tied it up at 55-all after a Spinoso layup. Swain hit another big three to put his team up 60-57 with 5:29 left, but Dingle kept it a one-score game with a jumper. Another Dingle basket made it a 1-point game (62-61) with 1:33 left. The Bulldogs were able to respond with four-straight points and forced Penn to foul. To close it out, Yale’s August Mahoney split his free throws and clinched the six-point win.
