CAMBRIDE, Mass. – Harvard created some separation in the team rankings in the second day of competition at the 2022 Ivy League Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship at Blodgett Pool on Thursday.
Three swimmers set NCAA B standard times in the 500 yard freestyle. Penn’s
Lia Thomas won the event with a Blodgett pool record time of 4:37.32. Her teammate
Catherine Buroker finished second in 4:47.22. Princeton’s
Ellie Marquardt took third in 4:48.61.
A trio of swimmers also set NCAA B standard times in the 200 yard IM. Harvard’s
Samantha Shelton won the event in 1:58.03. Her teammate
Felicia Pasadyn finished close behind her in 1:58.86. Princeton’s
Liza Whitmire placed third in 1:59.29.
Both Yale’s
Iszac Henig and Princeton’s
Nikki Venema placed first and second respectively in the 50 yard freestyle. The two both topped the what was the Blodgett Pool record entering the meet.
The Crimson took the top four spots in the 1m diving went to Harvard. All four Harvard divers posted NCAA A standard marks. Freshman
Katie Laverty claimed first with a score of 288.15. She was followed by
Morgane Herculano (282.95),
Esther Lawrence (274.55) and
Remi Edvalson (268.45).
Yale claimed the final event of the night, setting a new meet record the 200 yard freestyle relay. Henig,
Lindsey Wagner,
Olivia Pilkinton and
Marissa Healy posted a time of 1:29.66.
The action from the championship continues Friday with the prelim session set to begin at 11 a.m. and the finals session at 6 p.m.
