Ivy League Announces Women's Soccer All-Ivy Teams, Major Awards

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Following a successful Ivy League women’s soccer season that saw two programs ranked inside the top-25 throughout the season, and two programs (Brown and Harvard) receive bids to the NCAA Tournament, the Ivy League has announced the 2022 major awards and All-Ivy teams this afternoon.
  • Four separate teams received the four different major awards as Brown's Brittany Raphino was named Offensive Player of the Year for a second consecutive season, Harvard's Jade Rose was named Defensive Player of the Year, and Princeton's Pietra Tordin won Rookie of the Year.
  • Yale's Sarah Martinez took home this year's Coach of the Year award.
  • Three unanimous First-Team All-Ivy selections
  • All teams with at least one representative on First or Second-Team All-Ivy squads
After two successful seasons which saw them lead their teams to NCAA berths, Brown's Brittany Raphino was named Offensive Player of the Year while Harvard's Jade Rose was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year. Elsewhere, Princeton's Pietra Tordin took home this year's iteration of Rookie of the Year while Yale's Sarah Martinez won Coach of the Year.

Raphino played in 15 games for the Ivy League champions as she recorded a team-high 22 points, which was good for second-best in the conference. Raphino's nine goals were tied for the team lead for the Bears as she spearheaded the second-highest scoring offense in the nation that led the conference in goals (48). Her four assists throughout the 2022 campaign ranked third for the Bears as her four-point performance which included two assists helped the Bears to a victory over Dartmouth. Later on in the season, Raphino's two goals against Princeton earned her TopDrawerSoccer's National Team of the Week recognition.

Rose played nine games for a Crimson defense that ranked second in the conference in goals-against average (.800), and third in shutout percentage (.400). In the nine games that Rose played, she anchored a Crimson defense that only allowed eight goals while recording three clean sheets. In the final game of the season, Rose provided two assists in Harvard's win over Columbia.

Tordin's rookie campaign was a bright spot for Princeton as she tallied 19 points, a mark that was good for fourth-best in the conference. Her eight goals paced the Tigers and her three assists ranked second-best on the team. Starting in nine games while playing in 17 thoughout the season, Tordin earned one conference Player of the Week and two Rookie of the Week honors during the season. Her two goals against Rhode Island propelled her team to a 2-1 victory in non-conference play.

In her second season at the helm, Martinez earns Coach of the Year honors for the first time of her career. After a three-point season the year prior, Martinez led Yale to a 7-5-3 overall record and a 3-1-2 record in Ivy League play, which placed her squad third in the league. Martinez's squad consistently recorded clean sheets throughout the year as the Bulldogs were among the nation's leaders in shutout percentage (13th) as Yale paced the conference with nine clean sheets.

The All-Ivy First-Team consists of all seniors and sophomores this season. In total, six seniors and five sophomores earned the First-Team honor, while Brown's Kayla Duran and Raphino as well as Harvard sophomore midfielder Hannah Bebar were the only three unanimous selections.

Joining her teammates on the First-Team is Brown's Ava Seelenfreund as well as Harvard's Sophie Hirst and Rose. Dartmouth seniors Charlotte Cyr and Allie Winstanley were named to the First-Team to go along with defenders Courtney Ruedt (Columbia) and Laila Booker (Yale). Princeton midfielder Lily Bryant earned her first career All-Ivy First-Team honor.

Additionally, one Ivy League women’s soccer student-athlete from each institution was recognized for their commitment in the classroom and on the pitch as members of the 2022 Ivy League Women’s Soccer Academic All-Ivy team. Brown’s Sheyenne Allen, Columbia’s Jordan Beverina, Cornell’s Emily St. John, Dartmouth’s Allie Winstanley, Harvard’s Sophie Hirst, Penn's Ginger Fontenot, Princeton’s Ella Gantman and Yale’s Ellery Winkler were each named to the team.

In this past Monday’s NCAA Selection Show, both Brown and Harvard heard their names called as they punched their tickets to the NCAA Tournament.

On Saturday, November 12 at 5 p.m., Harvard plays host to New Hampshire at Jordan Field in Cambridge, Mass.
