PRINCETON, N.J. – Three of the four Ivy League football contests played on Saturday were decided by one possession. Columbia, Penn, Princeton and Yale each secured wins.
No. 17 Princeton remained unbeaten and sits atop the Ivy League standings at 5-0 in Ivy play. The Tigers are one of four remaining unbeaten teams in FCS. Although, the race for the Ivy title is still very open, as Princeton has Penn and Yale, both 4-1 in league play, remaining on its schedule.
YALE 69, BROWN 17
12 p.m. // New Haven, Conn. // Yale Bowl
- Yale’s offense exploded for 558 yards of total offense, as the Bulldogs (6-2, 4-1 Ivy) powered past Brown (3-5, 1-4 Ivy) by a score of 69-17.
- Bulldogs quarterback Nolan Grooms was 12-for-16 through the air for 205 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Tre Peterson rushed for a game-high 108 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries. The Bulldogs added two defensive scores with 19-yard scoop-and-score from Hamilton Moore and a 35-yard pick six from Joseph Vaughn.
- Brown running back Allen Smith rushed for a season-high 76 yards and found the endzone.
PENN 28, CORNELL 21
1 p.m. // Ithaca, N.Y. // Schoellkopf Field
- Penn (7-1, 4-1 Ivy) bounced back with a 28-21 win over Cornell (4-4, 1-4 Ivy).
- Quakers running back Trey Flowers toted the ball 26 times and picked up 124 yards and two touchdowns. Penn’s linebacker tandem of Garrett Morris and Jonathan Melvin each had big days. Morris led the team with 10 tackles and had an interception which he returned 22 yards. Melvin posted seven tackles, including a game-high 3.5 for a loss.
- Cornell receiver Thomas Glover hauled in a pair touchdown grabs as part of nine catch, 67-yard performance.
NO. 17 PRINCETON 17, DARTMOUTH 14
1 p.m. // Princeton, N.J. // Princeton Stadium
- Princeton (8-0, 5-2 Ivy) earned a 17-14 win at home over Dartmouth (2-6, 1-4 Ivy).
- Tigers quarterback Blake Stenstrom was 31-for-40 through the air, good for 264 yards. His top target was Dylan Classi, who reeled in eight receptions for 107 yards. Princeton’s defense limited the Big Green to 256 yards of total offense.
- Dartmouth linebacker Joe Heffernan posted a game-high 15 tackles. The Brookfield, Wis., native has recorded double-digit tackles in four of his last five games.
COLUMBIA 21, HARVARD 20
1 p.m. // Cambridge, Mass. // Harvard Stadium
- Columbia (4-4, 1-4 Ivy) blocked two field goal attempts in its 21-20 win over Harvard (5-3, 3-2 Ivy).
- Lions linebacker Scott Valentas notched a game-high 13 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for a loss and recorded an interception. The Wichita, Kan., native also came up with a field goal block, which help set up the game-winning score. Receiver Bryson Canty hauled in five catches for 92 yards and a touchdown.
- Harvard running back Aidan Borguet surpassed the 1000-yard rushing mark on the season, with his sixth 100-yard rushing game of the season. The Franklinville, N.J., native rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. He has 1003 yards on the season.
