PRINCETON, N.J. -- Ivy League wrestling has started off the new year on the right foot. Coming out of the first rankings of 2022, three Ivies received national rankings from the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) or Intermat, while 20 wrestlers were ranked top-25 nationally.
TEAMS IN THE RANKINGS
The
NWCA released their first edition of 2022 rankings on Monday, January 3. Cornell and Princeton still sit inside the top 20. After Cornell defeated then-No. 22 Northen Iowa and then-No. 8 Virginia Tech in the Collegiate Wrestling Duals the Big Red slid into the No. 8 spot. Princeton still holds strong at the No. 19 spot.
Penn received their first ranking of the season by falling into the
No. 24 slot on Intermat’s dual team rankings. The Quakers had an impressive showing at the MatMen Open where they placed second, above nine nationally ranked teams, including one in the top 10 of the NWCA poll.
INTERMAT INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
Each week,
InterMat releases their weekly weight class rankings. Thus far, at least one Ivy wrestler has been ranked in each weight class. In the most recent release, 20 Ivies had a top-25 ranking tied to their name from five programs.
