TAMPA, Fla. -- For the third-straight season, an Ivy lifted the Vince Lombardi Trophy on Super Bowl Sunday. Harvard alumnus tight end
Cameron Brate and Penn product wide receiver
Justin Watson became the 19th and 20th different Ivies to win a Super Bowl as members of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The first postseason appearance for both players was capped with a 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV. Brate, who scored the game-winning touchdown for the Buccaneers in the NFC Championship Game, posted three catches for 26 yards in the Super Bowl victory.
With Brate and Watson joining the elite fraternity, Ivy League football has now produced 13 Super Bowl champions since 2008.
25 Ivies earned NFL roster spots during the 2020 season, with 22 appearing in a regular-season game and 12 advancing to the NFL Playoffs.
The Ivy League was the lone Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) conference with multiple alumni featured in both the 2021 Pro Bowl and Super Bowl.
