Columbia Sweeps in Opening Women's Basketball Weekly Awards

PRINCETON, N.J. – Dominating performances, consistent across three games, put Columbia’s Abbey Hsu and Kitty Henderson in position to sweep the first Ivy League women’s basketball weekly awards of the season. Hsu garnered her second career Ivy League Player of the Week honor after averaging 20.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and collecting six steals, while Henderson’s average of 12.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.3 steals in her first three collegiate games earned her Rookie of the Week honors.
 
The League started off the season with a 10-9 record, highlighting a Columbia win over Clemson.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Abbey Hsu, Columbia (So., G –Parkland, Fla.)
  • Averaged 20.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2 steals, 42.9 percent from the field, 41.7 percent 3-point range and 90.9 percent from the foul line
  • Scored 22 points in 26 minutes, including a 5-of-9 mark from the three to lead Columbia to a season-opening 78-56 victory over Hampton
  • Went 9-of-10 at the free throw line to help tally 22 points against Davidson
  • Helped the Lions climb out of a 14-point deficit to top Clemson 82-78 on the road
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Kitty Henderson, Columbia (Fr., G –North Curl Curl, Australia)
  • Averaged 12.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.3 steals in her first three collegiate appearances
  • Shot 60 percent from the field and tallied for rebounds in a 87-78 win over Davidson
  • Scored 10 of her 16 points at Clemson in the second half, including six in the fourth quarter as the Lions outscored the Tigers 22-9 in the final period for the comeback win
  • After one week of play, ranks top 10 in the League for scoring (12.3)
