Darmouth's Mackie and Yale's Patterson Added to Buchanan Award Watch List

PRINCETON, N.J. – Dartmouth’s Jalen Mackie and Yale’s Clay Patterson were added to the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List, Stats Perform announced Wednesday afternoon. The two join Princeton’s Jeremiah Tyler, who was named to the award’s preseason watch list in August, on the list which now consists of 46 players.
 
The award, now in its 27th season, is presented annually to the national defensive player of the year in college football’s Division I subdivision. It is named for the legendary Hall of Fame defensive lineman. Past recipients include two-time winner Dexter Coakley, Rashean Mathis and Jared Allen.
 
Mackie leads the Ivy League in tackles with 78 on the season. The senior linebacker has 8.0 tackles for a loss on the season and has also snagged an interception. He has registered double-digit tackles five of the Big Green’s eight contests this season.
 
Patterson has a league-leading 11.5 sacks on the season and has a total of 13.0 tackles for a loss. The Frisco, Texas, native has 37 tackles and has registered a forced fumble. His top performance came in a shutout win over Lehigh in October, when he registered 5.0 tackles for a loss and 4.0 sacks.
