PRINCETON, N.J. – Strong individual performances from Yale’s Mark Winhoffer and Cornell’s Will Citron lead to the first Ivy League men’s soccer weekly honors. Winhoffer was named Player of the Week, while Citron claimed Rookie of the Week.
Mark Winhoffer, Yale (Jr., M – South Elgin, Ill.)
- Contributed four points as Yale registered two draws to open the 2019 campaign
- Had an assist in a 1-1 double-overtime draw with Syracuse
- Tallied his first goal and added an assist in a 2-2 draw against Colgate
- Served as a research assist at Yale’s Social Robotics Lab over the summer
Will Citron, Cornell (Fr., D – Eastchester, N.Y.)
- Scored his first career goal, the game-winning tally in a 2-1 overtime victory at No. 16 Michigan State
- Secured a bouncing ball in the box and fired it into the bottom left corner of the net.
- Led Cornell to its first win over a ranked opponent since September 19, 2017 when the Big Red defeated then-No. 11 Syracuse
- Guided his club team – NYCFC, an MLS academy team, to the U19 DA National Championship
