PRINCETON, N.J. – The Ivy League slate—and the League’s seven-game ESPN television package will kick off at 7 p.m. Friday on ESPNews when Brown visits Harvard. Cornell will also travel to Yale in League action Saturday, while four Ivies will look to add to the League’s 6-2 non-conference record in clashes with Patriot League opposition.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS — The Ivy League’s seven-game package on ESPN linear networks kicks off Friday when Brown visits Harvard at 7 p.m. on ESPNews. The Bears, led by first-year head coach James Perry and junior quarterback EJ Perry—a transfer from Boston College and the reigning FCS STATS National Offensive Player of the Week, will look to snap an eight-game losing streak to the Crimson. Harvard also claims an 86-30-2 advantage in the all-time series.
- ROAD WARRIORS — After a season-opening 21-7 win at Marist last weekend, Cornell will attempt to do something it has never done—open a season 2-0 with both wins coming on the road—when it visits Yale at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Big Red has played consecutive road games to open a season on just four prior occasions (1998, 2014, 2015 and 2017). Yale has won seven of the last 10 meetings between the Ivy League programs and owns a 49-30-2 lead in the all-time series.
- FAMILIAR FOES — Columbia, Dartmouth, Penn and No. 23 Princeton will each take on Patriot League foes Saturday. The Ivy League owns a 36-12 (.750) mark against Patriot League opposition over the past two seasons. Columbia will look for its third-straight win over Georgetown in the Lou Little Cup—the Lions defeated the Hoyas in 2017 and 2018 as part of their first back-to-back winning campaigns since 1961 and 1962. Dartmouth will take aim at its 15th-straight victory over a non-conference opponent when it hosts Colgate, a program that has won 16 of the last 19 clashes with the Big Green. Penn, which has lost five of the last seven to Lafayette, and Princeton, which has dropped back-to-back contests to Bucknell, will also look to turn the tide against regional opposition.
- DEFENSIVE FRONT — Five of the Ivy League defenses that will be on display this weekend rank among the top 10 nationally after allowing 14-or-fewer points in their season openers. Dartmouth leads the nation in scoring defense (6.0 points per game), followed by No. 2 Cornell (7.0 points per game), No. 2 Princeton (7.0 points per game), No. 4 Yale (10.0 points per game) and No. 9 Columbia (14.0 points per game). Princeton also picked up right where it left off in 2018, claiming the nation’s top scoring offense (49.0 points per game) after a 49-7 rout of Butler in its season opener.
- PUTTING ON MILEAGE — This weekend’s Ivy League slate will showcase three of the top four all-purpose yardage gainers in the FCS—Dartmouth senior wide receiver Drew Estrada (235.00 yards per game), Brown junior quarterback EJ Perry (229.00 yards per game) and Penn senior running back Karekin Brooks (178.00 yards per game).
- IVY LEAGUE ON ESPN – This weekend’s six football broadcasts will air on ESPN+ (3), Patriot League Network (2) and ESPNews (1). For more information on the Ivy League’s relationship with ESPN and to sign up for an ESPN+ subscription, click here.
