Ivy League's Celebration of CFB150 to Commence Wednesday

PRINCETON, N.J. -- In celebration of the League’s storied tradition and position at the forefront of college football, the Ivy League will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the sport (CFB150) with 150 consecutive days of original content, beginning on Wednesday, June 26.

The campaign will illustrate the League’s impact on the sport on a national scale and will run throughout the 2019 season, concluding on regional rivalry weekend on Saturday, Nov. 23.

“There is no more appropriate time to recognize the storied tradition of Ivy League football than during college football’s 150th anniversary celebration,” said Ivy League Executive Director Robin Harris. “The Ivy League has positively influenced the game in a multitude of noteworthy ways and we look forward to highlighting the continued impact and on-field achievements of the League throughout the 2019 season.”

From the first game—Princeton vs. Rutgers on Nov. 6, 1869—the Ivy League and its member institutions have been at the heart of college football. Names like Heisman, Camp, Outland, Bednarik, Campbell and Warner each trace their roots to Ivy League football. Through 149 seasons, the League has accounted for 48 national championships, including at least a share of the first 31.

The Ivy League’s impact on the game of football is unrivaled from defining positions, schemes and styles of play to groundbreaking rule changes ranging from the invention of the forward pass to an experimental kickoff rule aimed at curbing concussions.

The League has also been at the forefront of media exposure to the sport, as an Ivy League program was part of not only the first college football game, but also the first college football radio and television broadcasts. Through the years, the League has continued its national media prominence, most recently through its partnership with ESPN that launched in August 2018. An FCS-leading seven Ivy League football games will appear on ESPN linear networks during the 2019 season. This is the 12th-consecutive year that the League will feature a national football television package.

The League will kick off the 2019 season with the 2019 Ivy League Football Media Day on Thursday, August 15, at ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Conn. Media registration is now open, with an RSVP deadline of August 1.

The conference’s campaign will run concurrently with national sesquicentennial celebrations by CFB150 and ESPN, in which the Ivy League will be prominently featured.
