PRINCETON, N.J. – Two Ivies advanced in postseason play as Harvard and Brown registered opening-round wins in postseason tournaments for the first time in program history.
Harvard, seeded sixth in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) upset No. 3 Georgetown, 71-68. Brown defeated UAB in the first round of the Roman College Basketball Invitational (CB(), 83-78.
Junior Bryce Aiken led the scoring for the Crimson with 19 points, while classmate Robert Baker and first-year Noah Kirkwood totaled 11 apiece. The win was the first in the NIT for an Ivy League program since 2002, and Harvard's first postseason tournament victory on a national scale since 2014, when it upset Cincinnati in the NCAA Tournament.
Brown senior guard Obi Okolie scored a career high 26 points to lead the Bears to their first post-season tournament win ever. The win lifts the Bears to a school-record 20 wins (20-11), while UAB completes its season with a 20-15 record. The Bears will face the winner of tonight first round CBI matchup between Cal Baptist and Loyola Marymount on Monday, March 25 in California.
