No. 1 Harvard Sweeps Trinity En Route to 26th National Championship

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Top-ranked Harvard claimed the 2019 Potter Cup and the College Squash Association (CSA) national title via a 9-0 sweep of No. 3-ranked Trinity Sunday. 

The Crimson, fresh off their 42nd Ivy League crown, claimed their 26th Potter Cup all-time and first since 2013-14. Harvard ends the season with an unblemished 16-0 record—the 26th undefeated season in program history. 
 
Junior Sean Hughes set the pace for the Crimson as the team's No. 6, defeating Aryaman Adik, 11-2, 8-11, 11-5, 11-9. Classmate No. 3 Timothy Brownell followed suit shortly after, taking down Tom De Mulder, 11-5, 11-7, 11-7. No. 9 Senior Alexi Gosset battled back from an 0-2 deficit to defeat Nku Patrick, 7-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-2, 11-7 to give the Crimson a 3-0 advantage.
 
Junior Saadeldin Abouaish made quick work of his match against Aly Tolba, 11-7, 11-6, 11-3, to put Harvard one win away from the title. The team's No. 2, first-year Marwan Tarek, clinched the match for the Crimson with a five-game marathon against Thoboki Mohohlo, 9-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-4, 11-4. Sophomore Samuel Scherl quickly followed with a win against Ziad Sakr, 11-6, 11-1, 11-2, and sophomore Adam Corcoran finished off Will Curtis, 11-8, 11-3, 9-11, 11-5.
 
In the final two matches of the afternoon, Victor Crouin downed Kush Kumar, 12-10, 11-6, 11-7, at the team's top spot. First-year George Crowne, meanwhile, completed the sweep with a 3-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-0 victory against Andrew Lee.

Five other Ivies competed for the Potter Cup this weekend, with Penn finishing in third-place and Yale in fifth place as the consolation champion. Cornell was the consolation titlist in the Hoehn Cup bracket, while Brown was the runner-up fro the Summers Cup.
