Columbia's Ikwuazom Becomes Seventh AVCA All-American in League History

PITTSBURGH – 2019 Ivy League Player of the Year Chichi Ikwauzom becomes the seventh Ivy League student-athlete to earn All-America status following a historic senior season.
 
Ikwauzom has been named to the 2019 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American team, earning Honorable Mention as a part of the 2019 All-American team as announced on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
 
The 2019 Ivy League Player of the Year, Ikwuazom becomes only the seventh Ivy League student-athlete to be named to the All-American team, in what was the ninth time in league history. Ikwuazom is the first Ivy League All-American since Yale’s Mollie Rogers earned Honorable Mention status in 2014.


 
During the 2019 season, Ikwuazom was unstoppable, finishing with 495 total kills, 106 total blocks, a .438 hitting percentage, 559.5 points, 5.32 kills per set, 6.02 points per set and played and started all 24 matches during the season.  Ikwuazom finishing with the most kills in a single season in Columbia history and her 495 kills placed her fifth on the all-time Ivy League single season kills list.
 
Nationally, Ikwuazom finished the season ranked third in kills per set and points per set, fourth in hitting percentage and seventh in total kills and total points.
 
For her career, Ikwuazom leaves the Lions having set a new record for career blocks, finishing with 345 career blocks, and she sits fourth all-time in career kills with 1,026, and she is one of four Lions in program history to record at least 1,000 kills.  The award puts a bow on her career as well, as she graduates with a large collection of honors that now includes 2019 Honorable Mention AVCA All-American honors, being a member of the 2019 AVCA Northeast All-Region Team, the 2019 Ivy League Player of the Year, the 2016 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, being named First Team All-Ivy three times, earning six Ivy League Player of the Week awards and she was a two-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
