Ivy League Announces Football All-Ivy, Rookie of the Year & Coach of the Year

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Ivy League champions Dartmouth and Yale headlined the All-Ivy teams, with Big Green and Bulldog student-athletes claiming 11-of-27 First Team nods and 23-of-57 overall accolades.

Harvard freshman running back Aidan Borguet earned Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors. The Franklinville, N.J., native appeared in all 10 games for the Crimson, accumulating 645 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. Borguet was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week and STATS FCS National Rookie of the Week on Nov. 25, following his 269-yard, 4 touchdown performance in The Game. He is Harvard’s seventh Ivy League Rookie of the Year and first since Justice Shelton-Mosley in 2015.

After leading Dartmouth to its second-straight 9-1 season and its League-leading 19th Ivy League championship, head coach Buddy Teevens was named the Ivy League Coach of the Year for the first time since the award was instituted in 2014. With the Big Green’s victory in the season finale at Brown, Teevens became the all-time winningest coach at his alma mater with 105 career victories, surpassing the mark held by legendary Dartmouth head coach Bob Blackman

Teevens coached Dartmouth units that rank among the top 25 nationally in scoring defense (2nd, 12.40 points per game), total defense (14th, 320.9 yards per game) and scoring offense (25th, 33.3 points per game). He is 1-of-15 finalists for the Eddie Robinson Award, presented annually to the coach of the year in the FCS.

Ivy League champion Dartmouth paced the League with 13 All-Ivy selections, including a League-high six on the First Team led by unanimous selections senior linebacker Jack Traynor (Lake Forest, Ill.) and senior defensive back Isiah Swann

Swann is 1-of-26 finalists for the Buck Buchanan Award, presented annually to the most outstanding defensive player in the FCS. The Queen Creek, Ariz., native owns the Big Green career record with 17 interceptions—including the pick that sealed the Big Green’s 2019 Ivy League title with 17 seconds remaining in the season finale at Brown—and added 31 tackles, 15 passes defended, four interceptions, an assisted tackle for loss and a pair of touchdowns during his senior campaign.

Ivy League champion Yale closely followed the Big Green with 10 All-Ivy honorees and five First Team selections. Senior quarterback Kurt Rawlings earned a unanimous First Team nod.

Rawlings is 1-of-26 finalists for the Walter Payton Award, presented annually to the most outstanding offensive player in the FCS. The Bel Air, Md., native—who now owns every passing record in Yale history—ranks fourth in the FCS with 21.2 points responsible for per game and 331.6 yards of total offense per game. Rawlings threw for 3,002 yards and an Ivy League-high 27 touchdowns. He also added 314 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.

After placing third in the League with a 5-2 mark in conference play and an 8-2 overall record, Princeton tallied 10 All-Ivy picks—three First Team and seven Second Team. Paramount among them was unanimous First Team selection junior linebacker Jeremiah Tyler (Detroit, Mich.).

Penn and Cornell each finished 3-4 against Ivy League opposition and claimed six All-Ivy honorees. Second-Team All-Ivy freshman linebacker Jake Stebbins (Cranberry Township, Pa.) of Cornell is 1-of-20 finalists for the Jerry Rice Award, presented annually to the freshman player of the year in the FCS. He appeared in all 10 games for the Big Red, tallying 58 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two pass breakups and two forced fumbles.

Harvard (7) and Columbia (2) each registered multiple All-Ivy picks after 2-5 League campaigns, including unanimous First Team selection sophomore return specialist Mike Roussos (New Port Richey, Fla.) of Columbia. Brown produced three All-Ivy honorees after a 1-6 League finish.

Each of the League's eight programs had at least one First Team All-Ivy selection.

Dartmouth senior wide receiver and return specialist Drew Estrada (Argyle, Texas) was the lone student-athlete to be recognized at multiple positions, reaping Second Team All-Ivy accolades on both defense and special teams. Including honorable mentions, Princeton junior wide receiver (Second Team) and return specialist (Honorable Mention) Jacob Birmelin and Cornell senior kicker (Honorable Mention) and punter (Honorable Mention) Nickolas Null joined Estrada in attaining multiple accolades.

The 2019 Asa S. Bushnell Cup Presentation, honoring the Ivy League Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, will take place on Monday, Dec. 9, at the New York Hilton Midtown, and broadcast live on ESPN+. The Bushnell Cup finalists will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
