No. 21/22 Dartmouth & No. 25/24 Yale Clinch Shares of Ivy League Football Title

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Both games came down to the final play, but No. 21/22 Dartmouth and No. 25/24 Yale each took care of business on regional rivalry weekend to clinch a share of the 2019 Ivy League football championship.

Dartmouth senior defensive back Isiah Swann intercepted a pass from Brown junior quarterback EJ Perry in the end zone with 17 seconds remaining to seal the Big Green’s 29-23 victory and its League-leading 19th Ivy League title. Dartmouth junior quarterback Derek Kyler threw for a career-high 303 yards and four touchdowns in the win.

With the win—his 105th at the helm—Big Green head coach Buddy Teevens became the all-time winningest coach at his alma mater, breaking the record held by legendary Dartmouth head coach Bob Blackman

Yale’s defense stopped a Harvard fourth down attempt in double overtime to clinch a 50-43 win and a share of its 16th Ivy League championship all-time. To get there, Yale overcame a 17-point fourth quarter deficit with touchdown receptions by freshman wide receiver Mason Tipton and senior wide receiver JP Shohfi bookending an onside kick recovery by senior wide receiver Reed Klubnik over the final 1:28 of regulation.

Crimson junior quarterback Jake Smith found senior wide receiver Cody Chrest in the end zone on the first play of Harvard’s drive in the first overtime period and Yale responded with a touchdown pass of its own two plays later. It took the Bulldogs three plays to score in the second extra stanza, with junior running back Zane Dudek punching it in from four yards out after back-to-back completions from senior quarterback Kurt Rawlings to Shohfi.

Rawlings threw for 417 yards and three touchdowns, with each touchdown pass coming over the final 1:28 of regulation or in overtime. Harvard freshman running back Aidan Borguet had a breakout performance in the losing effort, amassing 269 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. He averaged 24.5 yards per carry, with each of his touchdown runs coming from 47-or-more yards out.

Princeton ended its two-game skid with a 28-7 victory at Penn. Junior running back Collin Eaddy paced the Tiger offense with 172 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns. With 95 rushing yards in the losing effort, Penn senior running back Karekin Brooks reached the 1,000-yard mark (1,003 rushing yards) for the season.

Cornell posted back-to-back wins to close out the 2019 campaign, with a 35-9 victory over Columbia in the Empire State Bowl. Big Red senior running back Harold Coles went over the 2,000 rushing yard plateau for his career as part of a 122-yard, two-touchdown game on Senior Day.
