Better Together: Columbia Women's Rowing Nina Tang '20BC

Nina Tang, ‘20BC, Columbia Women’s Rowing

"When I think about diversity, I picture my teammates. Each one of my teammates has interests aside from rowing, but the magnitude and depth of the passion behind each of our interests connects us even further. As a cellular/molecular biology major, I have devoted my collegiate education to the sciences, but I’ve learned an enormous amount about other fields exclusively from conversations with my teammates about what excites them. Through conversations with a teammate studying computer science, I learned how she used machine learning to write a program for NASA to sort through enormous amounts of environmental data. Through discussions of neuroscientific research with a teammate studying criminal law, I’ve learned the difference between mens rea and actus rea and how neuroimaging can affect our court system. When I reflect back on my student-athlete experience, I think about how my relationships with my teammates have extended rowing; frankly, my college experience would have been incomplete without these relationships."
The Ivy League is proud to showcase its diversity and inclusivity during the 2019 #NCAAInclusion Social Media Campaign, which will run from Tuesday, Oct. 22-Friday, Oct. 25, with different themes each day. The Ivy League will share quotes from select student-athletes about what they are doing on and off the field to make their campus a healthy and welcoming environment for everyone.
