PRINCETON, N.J. -- Three Ivies earned mention in the
Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division I Preseason Poll.
No. 8 Princeton and No. 10 Penn claimed top 10 rankings after each advanced to the second round of the 2018 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship. Dartmouth, which narrowly missed last year’s NCAA Tournament field with an 11-5 record, earned the No. 25 spot in the poll.
The Ivy League was 1-of-3 conferences to boast a pair of top 10 teams and at least three teams ranked among the top 25, joining the ACC and the Big Ten.
Penn and Princeton shared the Ivy League regular-season title in 2018, before Princeton earned the League’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament with a 13-10 victory in the 2018 Ivy League Women’s Lacrosse Tournament finale.
Penn has appeared in 12-straight NCAA Tournaments, the fifth-longest active streak in NCAA Division I, trailing only Maryland (28), Virginia (23), Northwestern (15) and North Carolina (14). Princeton has been featured in 17-of-19 NCAA Tournaments since 2000, including six-straight.
Since the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship began in 1982, the Ivy League has received multiple bids 28 times, including each of the past eight seasons. The League has produced four national champions and 24 Final Four teams all-time.
