LEAGUE NOTES:
- Matt Morgan continued his torrid scoring pace for Cornell this week, earning an Ivy League Player of the Week nod again after averaging 24 points, 3 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals for the Big Red. Morgan now is 13th nationally in scoring with 22.9 points per game.
- Yale’s Paul Atkinson stepped into a starting role for the Bulldogs after an injury to Jordan Bruner, and he didn’t disappoint. The freshman picked up Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors after averaging 10.7 points and 5.0 rebounds, while shooting 73.7 percent (14-of-19) in the new role.
- Facing a tough test at No. 10/11 Miami, playing the Hurricanes for the first time since 1948, Princeton shot a season-low 31-percent and 25-percent from three. But Devin Cannaday continued to roll, scoring double figures for the seventh consecutive game.
- The Ivy Leagued dropped to 0-2 versus No. 4 Villanova this year when Penn dropped a 90-62 game to its local foe. Three Quakers hit double-digit scoring as AJ Brodeur (15), Darnell Foreman (13) and Ryan Betley (11) all added to the tally.
- Seth Towns paced Harvard with a season-high 25 points as the Crimson fought against No. 7 Kentucky, but the Wildcats from the SEC used a second-half surge to rally past Harvard, despite 47 points for the Crimson bench. It was the first time the two programs met on the hardwood.
- Dartmouth has been sparse with games since the opening weeks, but went 1-1 this week to move to 2-3 on the year. After a win over Loyola (Md.) at home, the Big Green started a five-game road swing at Canisius. Stellar freshman Chris Knight entered the contest leading the nation in field goal percentage and finished with 12 points off the bench.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cornell junior
Matt Morgan continued his torrid scoring pace, averaging 24.0 points, 3.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals while connecting on 59 percent of his shots from the floor (17-of-29), 46 percent from 3-point range (5-of-11) and 82 percent from the line (9-of-11) as the Big Red went 1-1 in road games this past week.
In a 78-71 win at Duquesne, Morgan had 24 points, five assists, two rebounds and a steal for the Big Red, who topped an Atlantic 10 school for the first time since 2013. The junior hit 10-of-17 field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers and scored 15 of his points and dished off three assists in the decisive second half, allowing the Big Red to rally from a 3-point halftime deficit. He had seven points in a two-minute span midway through the half to push Cornell’s lead into double figures. He came back to score 24 points, grab three rebounds, dish an assist and collect a steal in a Saturday loss at Northeastern. He hit 7-of-12 shots from the floor, 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.
For the season, Morgan leads the Ivy League and ranks 13th nationally in scoring at 22.9 ppg. This marks the second weekly award for Morgan in 2017.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Yale’s
Paul Atkinson earned his first Ivy League weekly award honor after helping the Bulldogs to a 2-1 week. Forced into a starting role with the injury to Jordan Bruner, Atkinson is shining for the Bulldogs. In three games last week, including a pair of victories, he averaged 10.7 points and 5.0 rebounds, while shooting 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from the field.
In an impressive road victory at Delaware he was 4-of-6 from the field and scored eight points and then had nine points on 4-of-5 shooting in a home victory over Bryant. He closed out the week with perhaps his most impressive performance, coming one rebound short of a double-double against 23rd-ranked TCU. He finished with 15 points and nine rebounds.
This marks the first weekly award for Yale in 2017.
