Field Hockey Tournament Tiebreaker Procedure

Field Hockey Tiebreaker

Ties will be broken in rank order beginning with the highest seed. (Exception: If there are multiple ties in the standings, and the lower tie(s) can be determined on the basis of head-to-head/cumulative record against all other teams tied at that spot, those ties will be broken first. If breaking a tie in step 1b, 2b, 3b, 4b or 5b, and there is a group of tied teams lower in the standings that cannot be separated on the basis of head-to-head/cumulative record against all other teams tied at that spot, compare cumulative record against the group of tied teams rather than individual.)

      2. If all three teams have the same goal differential, move to 2d.

 RANDOM DRAW PROCEDURES
  • If this occurs in determining the tournament’s #1 seed, the team first drawn in the random draw selects:
                a. To host the tournament and occupy the #3 seed, or:
                b. To claim the #1 seed. If drawn team elects the #1 seed, hosting privileges go to the #2 seed.
  • The first team drawn must select from the above options before the tie between the remaining two teams is broken.
  • The highest remaining seed will go to the second team drawn in the random draw, continuing with remaining team(s)given the next highest seed remaining.
