Men's Soccer Tournament Tiebreakers [per coach group decision] Two-Team Tie In the case of a two-team tie, the following procedure will be used: The higher seed will be determined on the basis of head-to-head competition. If teams tied in head-to-head competition, move to 1b. Compare each team’s points against the highest seeded team outside of the tie. Continue through the standings until one team gains an advantage. If there is more than one team tied outside of the tie, take the cumulative points against the tied teams outside of the tie. If a two-team tie persists, move to 1c. Compare the total goal differential in league play only (6-goal maximum per game). If a two-team tie persists, move to 1d. Compare the total number of shutouts in league play only. If a two-team tie persists, move to 1e. Compare each team’s most recent NCAA RPI rankings against the other team with which it is tied. [Administration, Spring 2018]. RANDOM DRAW PROCEDURES If this occurs in determining the tournament’s #1 seed, the team first drawn in the random draw selects: To host the tournament and occupy the #3 seed, or: To claim the #1 seed. If drawn team elects the #1 seed, hosting privileges go to the #2 seed. The first team drawn must select from the above options before the tie between the remaining two teams is broken. The highest remaining seed will go to the second team drawn in the random draw, continuing with remaining team(s) given the next highest seed remaining.
