The Ivy League was once again well represented in the Olympics as 19 athletes with Ivy ties competing in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

The League boasted 19 athletes who earned 10 medals (six gold, three silver and one bronze), led by the nine Ivies on the rosters of the women’s ice teams from Canada and the United States.

Brown’s Becky Kellar, Cornell’s Rebecca Johnston, Dartmouth’s Gillian Apps and Cherie Piper and and Harvard’s Jennifer Botterill and Sarah Vaillancourt powered Canada to its third-straight Olympic title with a hard-fought 2-0 over the United States’ squad, which featured the Harvard trio of Caitlin Cahow, Julie Chu and Angela Ruggiero, in the gold-medal match.

Canada’s Marie-Philip Poulin scored two goals and Shannon Szabados made 28 saves before a raucous home crowd. After Poulin's two first-period scores, the Canadians dominated every aspect of the biggest game in this young sport, earning their 15th-straight Olympic victory.

In alpine skiing, Dartmouth’s Andrew Weibrecht recovered from his disappointing 21st-place finish in the men’s downhill to pull off a shocker of the Vancouver Games with a bronze-medal performance in the men’s super-giant-slalom. He finished in a time of 1:30.34, just behind his U.S. teammate Bode Miller’s time of 1:30.62 and Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal’s time of 1:30.34, to bring home the Ivies’ first of 10 medals in Vancouver.
