The Collegiate Women Sports Awards Presented by Honda

The Collegiate Women Sports Awards program, presented by Honda, recognizes accomplishments made in women's collegiate sports.

Each year, athletes in 12 NCAA Division I individual sports are named Honda Award winners by voting among 1,000 NCAA member schools and the board of directors of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards Program.

At the conclusion of the year, the Honda-Broderick Cup and the title of the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year is given to the woman who demonstrates superior individual athletic achievement and embodies the ideals of team contribution, scholastic endeavor and school and community involvement.

The Collegiate Women Sports Awards program began in 1976. It started out as the Broderick Awards, named after Tom Broderick. It was Broderick, Irv Grossman and Judie Holland who initiated the program. Subsequent to the passing of Broderick, the program continued under the guidance of Grossman and Holland and was renamed The Honda Awards program in 1985 when American Honda Motor Co., Inc. agreed to sponsor the program. A third name change occurred in 2001 when the program became The Collegiate Women Sports Awards sponsored by Honda.
