Five Ivies Pick Up Wins to Kick Off 2025 Season

PRINCETON, N.J. – Ivy League football teams opened the 2025 season combining for a 5-3 record.
 
The Ivy League picked up its first win over a top-25 opponent as Dartmouth defeated in-state foe, No. 23 New Hampshire in Hanover. In addition, Brown and Harvard routed their opponents, defeating their games by 46 and 52 points, respectively.
 
Over the past 20 seasons, Ivies are 98-62 in season openers.
 
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19
LAFAYETTE 38, COLUMBIA 14
7 p.m. // Easton, Pa. // Fisher Stadium
  • Columbia (0-1) fell to Lafayette (3-1) on the road, 38-14.
  • Quarterback Chase Goodwin was 14-for-34 for 195 yards and a touchdown. Michael Walters led all Lions on the ground with 63 rushing yards.
  • Charlie Newton had 12 tackles, including 1.5 for loss.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20
BROWN 46, GEORGETOWN 0
12 p.m. // Providence, R.I. // Richard Gouse Field at Brown Stadium
  • Brown (1-0) blanked Georgetown (2-2), dominantly winning its season opener, 46-0.
  • Quarterback James Murphy had a big game through the air, throwing 20-for-28 for 219 yards and two touchdowns. Qwentin Brown led Brown’s rushing attack with 69 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.
  • The Brown defense created four turnovers, forcing two fumbles with a pair of interceptions. Tommy Dunn totaled 3.0 sacks for 29 yards and forced a fumble. Ike Odimegwu also had 3.0 sacks.
 
YALE 28, HOLY CROSS 10
12 p.m. // New Haven, Conn.  // Yale Bowl
  • Yale (1-0) picked up its first win of the season with a 28-10 triumph over Holy Cross (0-4).
  • Josh Pitsenberger powered the Yale offense with 127 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
  • Yale took control in the second half, leading by as many as 25 in the fourth quarter behind 21 second-half points.
  • Dante Reno completed 13-of-18 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown.

SAN DIEGO 42, PRINCETON 35
12 p.m. // Princeton, N.J.  // Princeton Stadium
  • San Diego (2-2) had a late fourth-quarter push to get past Princeton (0-1), 42-35.
  • Kai Colon completed 12 passes for 196 yards while Ethan Clark led the Tigers with 72 yards on seven carries, including a 55-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter.
  • Marco Scarano had 18 total tackles, 10 of which were solo, as well as one forced fumble
 
PENN 24, STONEHILL 21
1 p.m. // Easton, Mass. // W.B. Mason Field
  • Penn (1-0) defeated Stonehill (1-3) on the road in the last minute as freshman Mason Walters drilled a 45-yard field goal on his first collegiate attempt with 15 seconds remaining to secure the win for the Quakers.
  • Penn had some big plays early on as Liam O’Brien connected with Jared Richardson on a 69-yard touchdown pass before Julien Stokes returned a punt 63 yards. Richardson finished his day with 103 receiving yards on five catches.
  • John Lista had a team-high 11 tackles.
 
DARTMOUTH 27, #23 NEW HAMPSHIRE 20
1 p.m. // Hanover, N.H. // Buddy Teevens Stadium at Memorial Field
  • Dartmouth (1-0) held off No. 23 New Hampshire (2-2) for an in-state rivalry win to open up its season.
  • QB Grayson Saunier threw for 244 yards with a key 48-yard completion down the stretch, while D.J. Crowther racked up 143 yards on the ground and three touchdowns, including a 33-yard TD in the fourth.
  • Saunier found the end zone, giving the Big Green a 27-20 lead with 2:53 in the fourth quarter before UNH turned the ball over on downs at the Dartmouth 18-yard line to put the game on ice for the Big Green.
  • Dartmouth had two interceptions.

HARVARD 59, STETSON 7
1 p.m. // DeLand, Fla.  // Spec Martin Municipal Stadium
  • Harvard (1-0) defeated Stetson (1-3) in dominant fashion, 59-7. The Crimson scored 45-straight points before allowing the Hatters to get on the board, leading the game 45-0 at the half.
  • Jaden Craig threw for 208 yards (10-for-13) and two touchdowns, and seven different Crimson players found the end zone, including Ryan Tattersall who hauled in a 69-yard pass from Craig.
  • The Crimson piled up nearly 500 yards of offense, finishing the day with 473 total yards, including 199 on the ground.
  • Jaeden Kinlock had a team-high 11 tackles, including five solo.
  
UALBANY 13, CORNELL 10
7 p.m. // Albany, N.Y. // Casey Stadium
  • Cornell (0-1) came up just short against UAlbany (1-3) on the road, falling in a defensive battle, 13-10.
  • The Big Red defense limited the Great Danes to an average of just 3.8 yards per play.
  • Ryder Kurtz had six catches for 68 yards and one touchdown.
  • Joey Cheshire led the Big Red with 10 tackles.
