PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard’s Lauren Scruggs and Yale’s Mia Levy have been named the Ivy League’s conference-level nominees for the 2025 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
Established in 1991, the NCAA Woman of the Year program honors the academic achievements, athletic excellence, community service, and leadership of graduating female student-athletes from all three NCAA divisions. To be eligible, nominees must have competed in an NCAA-sponsored sport, earned a varsity letter and completed their undergraduate degree by summer 2025.
All conference-level nominees will advance to the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee, which will identify the top 10 honorees from each division. From the resulting group of 30, the committee will select the 2025 NCAA Woman of the Year. The national Top 30 honorees will be announced later this year, and the 2025 NCAA Woman of the Year will be recognized at the 2026 NCAA Convention in Washington, D.C.
LAUREN SCRUGGS
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Scruggs made history by becoming the first Black American woman to win an individual fencing medal, earning silver in women’s individual foil. She also captured gold as a member of the women’s team foil. A four-time USFCA All-America honoree, Scruggs won the NCAA Women’s Foil Championship in 2023.
Off the strip, the Queens, N.Y., native has spent the last seven years volunteering with the Peter Westbrook Foundation, helping introduce fencing to typically underrepresented communities and those with limited access to the sport.
Scruggs graduated from Harvard with a degree in philosophy and a 3.46 grade point average.
MIA LEVY
A three-time CRCA All-America honoree, Levy was named the organization’s national athlete of the year this past season. The Des Moines, Iowa, native led the Bulldogs varsity eight boat to a national title, which propelled Yale to a second-place finish overall at the 2025 NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships.
As co-president of Yale’s Athlete Ally chapter for three years, Levy led its transformation from a campus club to a chapter of the national nonprofit. Levy also volunteered with the Yale Prison Education Initiative, tutored at the university’s Poorvu Center and served as a summer intern in human resources with New Haven Public Schools.
The 2025 recipient of Yale’s Nellie Pratt Elliott Award -- presented to one senior female sport participant whose excellence in the field of athletics and their life at Yale best represents the ideals of sportsmanship and Yale tradition – Levy graduated from Yale with a 3.90 grade point average with a degree in English and Certificate in Educational Studies.
