Penn Women Take Home Ivy League Indoor Heps Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Penn women claimed their fourth Ivy League indoor title out of the last six years, scoring 140 points in the process to win a thrilling race in the final event. Cornell's Noelle Elkinton registered a winning mark of 15.29m in the shot put, which also established a personal-best effort.  Princeton sophomore Georgina Scoot notched a personal-best effort of 13.03m in the triple jump victory. Columbia senior Nicole Vanasse accounted for a personal-best mark of 4:36.52 while winning the mile while Penn junior Olivia Morganti also notched a personal best with her second-place finish (4:40.01).  The Quakers’ Aliya Garozzo bested two student-athletes from Brown in the 60m hurdles. Garozzo clinched the title after crossing in 8.37. Penn continued the strong performance on Sunday with Isabella Whittaker taking home the championship in the 400m with a meet record time of 52.54.    Harvard’s Victoria Bossong garnered the 500m title after posting an Ivy League, meet record and personal-best mark of 1:08.53. Penn went one-two-three in the 60m. Fore Abinusawa established an Ivy League best, meet record, indoor season best and personal-best mark of 7.25. Teammates Christiana Nwachuku (7.42) and Isabella Whittaker (7.44) rounded out the top three in the event. Harvard freshman Sophia Gorriaran claimed the 800m after finishing in 2:04.56. Another meet record and indoor season best mark occurred when Princeton’s Mena Scatchard won the 1,000m in 2:43.23.  Penn’s trio claimed the top three spots in the 200m with Abinusawa finishing in an indoor season best 23.53. Whittaker took second in 23.90 while Nwachuku was third in a personal-best time of 23.97.  Columbia went one-two in the 5,000m with Phoebe Anderson establishing a meet record 15:41.31 while her teammate Elia Ton-That finished in 15:58.51. Brown posted a one-two finish in the high jump. Rudecia Bernard claimed the title with 1.76m while Chiamaka Odenigbo was second after clearing 1.72m. Harvard’s Gorriaran, Chloe Fair, Bossong, and Maia Ramsden won the distance medley event in a meet record 10:56.77. The quartet of Olivia Martin, Maddie Cramer, Hannah Riggins and Scatchard claimed the 4x800m title in an Ivy-best and meet-record 8:40.51.  Penn’s 4x400m team of Nwachuku, Jocelyn Niemiec, Abinusawa and Garozzo posted a meet record time of 3:35.73, defeating their counterparts by over two seconds.  The pentathlon mark of 4,027 points for Odenigbo marked a personal-best effort en route to a first-place finish.
