Tigers Win Four More Races, Claim Second Straight Ivy League Title

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Princeton University’s women’s swimming and diving program claimed its second straight Ivy League Championship and third in the last four years on Saturday evening inside the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center on the campus of Brown University.
 
Saturday’s finale started with the 1,650-Yard Freestyle, won by Penm’s Anna Kalandadze who set a pool record with a time of 15:54.53, more than 18 seconds faster than the next closest competitor.
 
In the 200-Yard Backstroke, Harvard’s Anya Mostek reached the wall in 1:54.53, edging out Princeton’s Margaux McDonald who finished with a time of 1:54.58. Mostek, McDonald and two of the other top four finishers all secured NCAA ‘B’ Standard times.
 
Another Tiger, Sabrina Johnston set a pool record of 48.28 in the 100-Yard Freestyle, while freshman teammate Dakota Tucker continued her strong postseason performance with a swim of 2:09.88 to claim victory in the 200-Yard Breaststroke.
 
Princeton’s dominance carried on with a win by Heidi Smitchwick in the 200-Yard Butterfly, setting a new pool record of 1:54.62 with her first place finish.
 
The final diving competition saw Harvard’s Nina Janmyr earn her second title of the meet, collecting 291.65 points in the 3-Meter Diving finale.
 
The meet concluded with the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay where the team of Johnston, Ela Noble, Ellie Marquardt, and Smithwick swam to victory with a time of 3:15.62 to cement the overall meet win for Princeton.
