Ivy Football in Japan

For the second consecutive season, the Ivy League will be participating in Japan's National Football Association's (NFA) Dream Japan Bowl, an all-star game in Tokyo. An Ivy League team will square off against a Japanese team starring players from the X League. The event is set for Saturday, Jan. 20 at 11 p.m. EST (Sunday, Jan. 21, 1 p.m. JST) at the National Stadium, newly built for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games. The Ivy League delegation will participate in numerous cultural and educational events during its week-long stay in Japan. A tape delay of the broadcast will be available on ESPN+ Wednesday, Jan. 24.

NATIONAL STADIUM VISIT

The Ivy League team toured National Stadium, which was newly constructed for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

DAY 5 OF PRACTICE

FOOTBALL CLINIC

Following practice, the players visited local schools and later held a football clinic. 

THURSDAY, JAN. 18

DAY 4 OF PRACTICE

Princeton linebacker Will Perez was mic'd up for practice. 

On Wednesday, Harvard head football coach Tim Murphy announced his retirement following a 30-year run at the helm of the Crimson program. Murphy holds the league record for all-time wins (200), all-time league wins (138) and is tied for the most Ivy titles (10).

DAY 3 OF PRACTICE

CORPORATE VISITS 

Following practice, the Ivy League football delegation embarked on corporate visits. One destination included a tour of the Central Japan Railway Company, which utilizes a magnetic levitation system making its trains capable of reaching speeds up to 375 miles per hour.  

TUESDAY, JAN. 16

DAY 2 OF PRACTICE

The Ivy League team had a special visitor on the second day of practice. Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Fukazawa Yoichi stopped by practice and spoke with the team. 

US EMBASSY VISIT

US Embassy Visit

The Ivy delegation kept the theme of international affairs following practice, visiting the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo. 

PRESS CONFERENCE

Ivy League head coach James Perry (Brown) and captains Nick Howard (Dartmouth) and Alex Washington (Harvard) participated in a press conference with Japan's head coach and captain. 

MONDAY, JAN. 15

DAY 1 OF PRACTICE

The Ivy League completed its first day of practice on Monday, Jan. 15. The group is being led by Brown head coach James Perry and the Bears coaching staff. The full Ivy League roster can be viewed HERE. 

VISITING KAMAKURA

Following its first practice on Monday, the Ivy League team toured the historic city of Kamakura. The coastal city was Japan's political center during the Kamakura Period from 1185-1333. The city is also home to Kotoku-in, a Buddhist Temple renowned for The Great Buddha of Kamakura which is a bronze statue of Amida Buddha erected in 1252.
