Week 1 Football Award Winners Announced

PRINCETON, N.J. – Following victories in Week 1, Brown’s Jake Willcox (Offensive), Harvard’s Ty Bartrum (Defensive), Cornell’s Jackson Kennedy (Special Teams) and Princeton’s Brady Clark (Rookie) earned Ivy League football weekly awards. 
 
Ivies opened with a record of 5-3, marking the eighth consecutive season the league has started .500 or better in Week 1 contests. During that span, Ivies are 43-21 (.672) in season-openers.  
 
Following its 45-13 win over St. Thomas, Harvard has entered the top 25 in the AFCA Coaches Poll at the No. 25 spot. Princeton and Yale each received votes in the poll.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jake Willcox, Brown QB
  • Led Brown to a dramatic 29-25 win over in-state foe Bryant
  • After Bryant went up 25-22 with 1:03 remaining, Willcox drove the Bears down the field with a 76-yard, six play drive that culminated in a four-yard touchdown pass with 13 seconds left  
  • Threw for 355 yards on 36-for-49 passing with three touchdowns
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ty Bartrum, Harvard DB 
  • Recorded a 96-yard pick six in Harvard’s win
  • The interception and touchdown were the first of his career
  • Was second on the team in tackles with eight on the afternoon
 
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jackson Kennedy, Cornell P/K
  • Booted an 81-yard punt, the sixth longest in Ivy League history
  • Was 3-for-4 on field goal attempts in Cornell’s 23-20 win over Lehigh
  • His 29-yarder with just over three minutes remaining proved to be the difference
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Brady Clark, Princeton P
  • Booted eight punts averaging over 40.3 yards per punt
  • Had three land inside the opponent's 20-yard line
  • Two of his punts went 50+ yards, including a long of 53 yards
