Penn Men's Soccer Picked to Repeat in Preseason Poll

PRINCETON, N.J. — All eyes are on Ivy League men’s soccer following a thrilling 2022 campaign in which both Cornell and Penn recorded wins in the NCAA Tournament before falling to eventual champion Syracuse. After a vote by members of the media, Penn was picked to repeat as conference champions.

The Quakers take the first-place spot after receiving 119 votes and nine first-place votes. Penn enters the year off the back of a 13-3-2 overall 2022 season coupled with a win in the NCAA Tournament over Rutgers before falling in double overtime to Syracuse.
 
Cornell received 115 votes and six first-place votes and comes into the 2023 campaign following a 14-3-1 record in the previous season. The Big Red earned wins over Fairleigh Dickinson and Maryland in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Syracuse, 1-0.

Harvard was the only other team to receive a first-place vote, coming off a 9-4-4 year. Yale (73) and Princeton (67) both received over 60 votes for the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, while Dartmouth, Brown, and Columbia occupied the bottom three spots.

This year, the Ivy League will hold a men’s soccer postseason tournament to determine the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament. The four-team tournament will consist of the top four teams from the regular season and will be hosted by the No. 1 seed on Friday, November 10 and Sunday, November 12.

Last week, numerous student-athletes received national attention as six Ivies were named to TopDrawerSoccer's Top 100 players for the season. Penn's Stas Korzeniowski earned the number eight ranking in the country. His teammate, Leo Burney, was ranked inside the top 20 as well. Cornell’s Connor Drought (#53) and Ryan Friedberg (#72) made the list along with Harvard’s Willem Ebbinge (#58) and Alessandro Arlotti (#73).

All eight squads will be in action this Friday beginning with Harvard kicking off at 1 p.m. ET. against Rhode Island.
