Week 8 Football Award Winners Announced

PRINCETON, N.J. – Following a week with several strong individual performances through the league, Penn’s Malachi Hosley (offensive & rookie) and Dartmouth’s Charles Looes (defensive) and Owen Zalc (special teams) earned Ivy League football weekly honors for Week 8.
 
Hosley was additionally named the FedEx Ground FCS National Freshman Player of the Week by Stats Perform.
 
Following Week 8, Harvard sits atop the league’s standings with a record of 5-1. The race for the Ivy title is still wide open, however, as Dartmouth, Penn, Princeton and Yale are just a game behind the Crimson.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK & ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Malachi Hosley, 
Penn RB
  • Rushed for 261 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Penn’s 23-8 win over Cornell
  • His 261 rushing yards is tied for the 16th most in Ivy League single game history and is the third most by a freshman in the FCS this season
  • Touchdown runs were of 68 and 96 yards, respectively
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Charles Looes, 
Dartmouth DE
  • Had four sacks and two forced fumbles in Dartmouth’s 23-21 win over Princeton
  • One of his forced fumbles was a strip sack, which set up a field goal
  • His four sacks is tied for the second most in a single game in the FCS this season
 
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Owen Zalc, 
Dartmouth K
  • Perfect 3-for-3 on field goal attempts in Dartmouth’s win
  • Hit the game-winning 47-yarder, matching his career long, to give the Big Green the lead with 1:28 left
  • Was 2-for-2 on PATs and had two touchbacks on kickoffs
