PRINCETON, N.J. & IRVING, Texas (Nov. 28, 2023) – Continuing a partnership that began in 2010, the National Football Foundation (NFF) and the Ivy League will co-host the Asa S. Bushnell Cup announcement, presented by Bruin Capital, on Dec. 11 at the famed New York Athletic Club overlooking Central Park.

Four Ivy finalists will travel to New York City for the press conference and reception where the Asa S. Bushnell Cup will be presented to the Ivy League Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year. Brown senior wide receiver Wes Rockett and Yale senior quarterback Nolan Grooms are the Offensive Player of the Year finalists, while Dartmouth fifth year defensive lineman Charles Looes and Penn senior defensive lineman Joey Slackman are the Defensive Player of the Year finalists.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR FINALISTS
Rockett had 795 receiving yards on 70 receptions, leading the league in both categories. The Marblehead, Mass., native had three 100-yard receiving games. He hauled in three touchdowns grabs and added two on the ground. 
 
The reigning Bushnell Cup recipient, Grooms led the league with 22 passing touchdowns. The Lake Wylie, S.C., native accumulated 2,451 yards of total offense with 1,863 through the air and 588 on the ground leading the Bulldogs to another Ivy title. He had six games which he had a rush of at least 20 yards and pass of 30 yards. 
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR FINALISTS
Looes anchored the Big Green defense which ranked 14th in the FCS in total defense, allowing just 305.5 yards per game. The Hillsdale, N.J., product led the league in sacks with 7.5 and was seventh in tackles for loss with 9.5. He registered 43 tackles, forced two fumbles and recovered a fumble helping the Big Green to an Ivy title.  
 
Slackman led Penn’s defensive unit which ranked 13th in the FCS in total defense, permitting just 304 yards per game. The Commack, N.Y., native totaled 12.0 tackles for a loss and four sacks. He finished the season with 50 total tackles. 
 
ASA S. BUSHNELL CUP HISTORY
Presented annually since 1970, The Asa S. Bushnell Cup honors its namesake, a 1921 Princeton alumnus and the commissioner of the Eastern College Athletic Conference from 1938 to 1970. The Bushnell Cup is awarded by a vote of the Ivy League's eight head football coaches to the players who display outstanding qualities of leadership, competitive spirit, contribution to the team and accomplishments on the field.
 
From 1970 to 2010, the Bushnell Cup recognized an Ivy League Player of the Year (or co-Players of the Year if there was a tie in voting). Beginning with the 2010 season, the award was presented as part of the festivities surrounding the NFF Annual Awards Dinner with four finalists named a week prior to the presentation. Beginning with the 2011 season, the award began recognizing Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, honoring each as a recipient of the Bushnell Cup. Two offensive finalists and two defensive finalists are named, with the Players of the Year unveiled at the presentation.

The Bushnell Cup Presentation will follow the NFF’s 65^th Annual Awards Dinner presented by Las Vegas on Tuesday, Dec. 5. As the culmination of the regular season, the event provides the stage for the induction of the 2023 College Football Hall of Fame Classes and honoring the 2023 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class presented by Fidelity Investments at the ARIA Resort & Casino – Las Vegas. The event will be broadcast live on ESPN+ beginning at 10 p.m. ET.
