Ivy League Announces Football All-Ivy, Rookie of the Year & Coach of the Year

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Ivy League announced its All-Ivy football teams and its rookie of the year and coach of the year awards Tuesday afternoon.

After taking the Ivy League by storm and finishing second in the league in rushing yards during his freshman year, Penn’s Malachi Hosley was named the 2023 Ivy League Rookie of the Year. Hosley totaled 723 rushing yards on 121 carries, averaging 6.0 yards per carry, and caught 22 passes for 246 receiving yards. Hosley combined for eight touchdowns, seven rushing and one receiving in nine games. He came on strong towards the end of the season, going for a season-high 261 rushing yards and two touchdowns in Penn’s win over Cornell.

Stepping into the head coach role and steering Dartmouth to a share of the 2023 Ivy League title, Sammy McCorkle was named the Ivy League Coach of the Year. McCorkle guided his Big Green through the tragic passing of Buddy Teevens as the then-interim head coach and had Dartmouth playing their best football during the back half of the season, winning four of their last five games to tie Harvard and Yale atop the Ivy League standings. The Big Green finished the season with a 5-2 record in Ivy League play.

There was a four-way tie for most All-Ivy First and Second Team selections between Yale, Harvard, Dartmouth, and Penn. Yale had the most First Team All-Ivy honorees with four offensive and three defensive selections. Senior wideout Mason Tipton was a unanimous selection for the Bulldogs, one of only four unanimous selections on this year’s All-Ivy Team. Harvard’s Shane McLaughlin was one of three All-Ivy Offense honorees for the Crimson and the other unanimous selection on the offensive side.

Cornell had seven players selected to the All-Ivy Teams, including an Ivy League-high six players on the second team. Brown had five honorees, followed by four from both Columbia and Princeton. Ozzie Nicholas, a senior linebacker from Princeton, was a unanimous defensive All-Ivy selection and Columbia’s punter William Hughes was the final unanimous All-Ivy First Team selection.

The 2023 Asa S. Bushnell Cup Presentation, honoring the Ivy League Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, will take place on Monday, Dec. 11, at the famed New York Athletic Club. The Bushnell Cup finalists will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 28.
