PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard and Yale earned impressive wins over Penn and Princeton, respectively, to keep both teams in the race for the Ivy League title next weekend. Columbia and Cornell also picked up week nine victories.
The Ivy League football title race will come down to the final games next weekend. Yale (at Harvard) and Princeton (vs. Penn) will earn at least a share of the Ivy League titles with wins while Harvard and Penn will need each other to win to create a four-team tie at two losses for the title.
Here is how week nine happened on Saturday afternoon:
COLUMBIA 31, BROWN 24 (OT)
12 p.m. // Providence, R.I. // Brown Stadium
- Columbia defeated Brown in overtime to move to 5-4 overall and 2-4 in the league.
- Joey Giorgi ran for 159 yards and a touchdown for the Lions.
- Marcus Libman had five catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns for Columbia, including an 80-yard catch.
- Allen Smith ran for 100 yards and a two touchdowns for Brown.
YALE 24, PRINCETON 21
12 p.m. // New Haven, Conn. // Yale Bowl
- Yale held off a Princeton final minute drive to earn an impressive 24-21 win in New Haven.
- Bulldog quarterback Nolan Grooms rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown in the victory.
- Yale outscored Princeton 17-6 in the second half.
- A Yale win over Harvard next weekend will secure at least a share of the Ivy League title for the Bulldogs.
- A Princeton victory over Penn next weekend will also claim at least a share of the Ivy League title.
HARVARD 37, PENN 14
1 p.m. // Philadelphia, Pa. // Franklin Field
- Harvard cruised past Penn 37-14 in Philadelphia this afternoon to keep its Ivy League title hopes alive.
- Crimson quarterback Charlie Dean threw for 316 yards and four touchdowns in the victory.
- Rory Starkey, Jr. had 117 yards receiving and a touchdown for Penn.
CORNELL 17, DARTMOUTH 13
1 p.m. // Ithaca, N.Y. // Schoellkopf Field
- Cornell held Dartmouth scoreless in the fourth quarter to earn a 17-13 win over the Big Green.
- The Big Red defense held Dartmouth to just 47 yards rushing on the afternoon.
- Dartmouth will finish the season next weekend vs. Brown while Cornell will face Columbia.
