Former Dartmouth Staffer King Becomes NFL's First Full-Time Black Female Coach

PRINCETON, N.J. -- After spending the 2020 NFL season as a coaching intern with the Washington Football Team, former Dartmouth quality control coach Jennifer King was promoted to assistant running backs coach—making her the first full-time Black female coach in the National Football League (NFL).

"Coach King is well deserving of the promotion to assistant running backs coach. She came to Washington eager for the opportunity to work as a full-year coaching intern and learn from our staff," Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera said in a statement. "She got the chance to experience not only the in-season work that goes into being a full-time coach in this league but also the countless hours that are spent preparing in the offseason as well. She demonstrated all of the qualities that are needed to work full-time on my staff. She is a hard worker, a great communicator and a quality person. Coach King is always eager to learn and has shown tremendous growth since starting here last season. I know she will continue to be an asset to Coach Turner, Coach Jordan and the running back group, and she earned this opportunity with her hard work. The sky is truly the limit for her."

King was a part of the Dartmouth coaching staff during the 2019 campaign, when the Big Green won their conference-best 19th Ivy League title behind a 9-1 overall mark and a 6-1 record in League play.

Back in September, King was on the opposite sideline from another former quality control coach at Dartmouth, Callie Brownson, who was on the Cleveland Browns' staff and was the first Division I full-time female coach when she was hired by Big Green head coach Buddy Teevens in the fall of 2018. They became the first females to be on opposite sidelines in an NFL game that had a female official on the field. King made history again earlier this month when Washington squared off against the Bucs, as it was the first playoff game with female coaches on opposing sidelines.
