Marcellus Wiley epitomizes the power of ‘and.’ From football player to broadcaster to author, ‘Dat Dude’ has proven successful at every endeavor.
Born and raised in Compton, Calif., Wiley chose Columbia over Power Five teams UCLA and Cal, and led the Lions (2-8 his first year) to an 8-2 record his senior campaign. He was a two-time All-Ivy recipient and an All-American as a senior, and was selected with the 22
nd pick of the second round in the 1997 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. Wiley played 10 seasons in the NFL, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2001 and three Walter Payton Man of the Year nominations.
Wiley then moved to the broadcast side of sports, spending 11 years with ESPN as co-host of the tv show
SportsNation and a radio show on ESPNLA 710AM, before moving over to FOX Sports. He currently is a co-host of
Speak For Yourself on FS1 and his autobiography:
Never Shut Up, was released in October of 2018. He is also involved with a number of
charitable organizations, including serving as an ambassador for After-School All-Stars Los Angeles.

IvyLeague.com: What does it mean to you to be an Ivy League student-athlete?
Marcellus: I take tremendous pride in my decision to prioritize my academics over my athletics. It has paid tremendous dividends in my life to have that big picture mindset.
IvyLeague.com: How do you feel your Ivy experience has helped you in your professional career?
Marcellus: My range of exposures can’t be understated, or frankly, replicated! Couple those experiences with the reality that being an Ivy League graduate earns you the highest respect. Or, as I’ve heard it, “It affords me intelligence.”
IvyLeague.com: What is your favorite memory from your time as an Ivy League student-athlete?
Marcellus: I will never forget the buzz around campus my senior year [when the team finished 8-2]. A collective fanaticism about our team and my NFL aspirations. Columbia was on fire!
IvyLeague.com: What do you think of when you think of the history of Ivy League football?
Marcellus: The Ivy League is where college football all started! The origin of the King of all sports in our country is the Ancient Eight. I’m deeply honored to be a member of this league and to carry on that rich tradition.
