GETTING THE CALL
A number of Ivies realized their dreams after the 2019 NFL Draft, getting signed as undrafted free agents. Two Ivies had to wait a bit longer – former Penn football standout
Louis Vecchio, who spent his graduate year playing for Vanderbilt in the SEC, is returning to Philly to compete for a spot at the Eagles training camp, and Princeton's
Jesper Horsted became the latest Ivy to sign when he inked with the Chicago Bears. In total, six Ivies will get a chance to play in the NFL, including Princeton’s
Stephen Carlson (Browns) and
John Lovett (Chiefs). Dartmouth’s
Matt Kaskey (Rams) and Harvard’s
Larry Allen, Jr. (Cowboys).
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
The 2018-19 Ivy League women’s basketball Rookie of the Year, Columbia’s
Sienna Durr, added another award to her trophy case when she received the Met Basketball Division I Rookie of the Year honor.
GOING INTERNATIONAL
Recent Harvard men’s hockey standout
Adam Fox is taking his talents overseas, where he will be playing for Team USA in the 2019 Men’s World Championship in Kosice & Bratislava, Slovakia. Fox picked up an assist in his team’s first game, a 5-2 win over Germany.
LIONS PRIDE
David Speer and
Dario Pizzano, former Columbia baseball teammates now competing for different teams in double-A, came within one batter of facing each other in a recent matchup. They sat down after the game to discuss their seasons and what it would have been like to see the other 60-feet, six-inches away.
