ORLANDO — Columbia men's tennis head coach
Bid Goswami has been named the 2019 Wilson/ITA National Men's Tennis Coach of the Year, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Sunday afternoon.
"I feel very blessed and honored and I want to thank all my players who made this possible," said Goswami. "To all my coaches who helped me become a better coach, and to all the people who always encouraged me to try and be the best I can be."
After announcing his plans to retire at the conclusion of the 2019 season, 37th-year head coach Goswami led the Lions to the their sixth-straight Ivy League title, second-consecutive top-16 national seed in the NCAA Tournament, second-straight Sweet 16 and the program's fourth National Indoor berth in five seasons. Columbia finished the 2019 campaign with a 19-4 overall record and an unblemished 7-0 mark in conference matches with the only four losses coming against foes that would advance to at least the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, two of which competed in the national title match.
Goswami's final season at the helm was one for the books, earning statement victories over No. 9 Baylor and No. 11 Notre Dame to help the Lions climb as high as No. 8 in the ITA rankings, the second-highest team ranking in program history. Columbia reached their fourth-ever NCAA Sweet 16 after hosting the first and second rounds for the second-straight year. Victor Pham to Ivy League Player of the Year honors.
