NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- In what has become almost an annual tradition, Princeton and Cornell took the top two spots at the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track and Field Championships, with the Tigers coming back to win the 2017 title, Sunday at Yale’s Cuyler Field and Dwyer Track in New Haven, Conn.
Princeton finished with 156 points, while Cornell tallied 149. Penn was third with 86, followed by Harvard (85), Dartmouth (64), Yale (63), Columbia (48) and Brown (31).
The Tigers claimed their League-leading 18th outdoor championship and first since 2015. Princeton surpassed the Big Red at the end of the day, getting eight points in the decathlon to move into first-place. Penn took third for the third-straight year, while Harvard’s fourth-place finish is its best since taking third in 2014, also at Yale.
Yale senior Marc-Andre Alexandre was voted Most Outstanding Track Performer after winning the 400m and running with the Bulldogs’ winning 4x400m relay team and second-place 4x100m relay team.
Harvard senior Efe Uwaifo was selected Most Outstanding Field Performer after winning the long and triple jumps, recording the third-best mark in meet history in the latter event. Uwaifo became the first Crimson to win the triple jump since Samyr Laine claimed the second of his back-to-back titles in 2005.
