Joe Carrabino, Harvard

The Crimson’s all-time leading scorer with 1,880 points, Joe Carrabino was the first Harvard men’s basketball player ever selected as Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 1980-81 and Ivy League Player of the Year in 1983-84. He is one of three student-athletes to have earned a Player of the Year nod with the Crimson. Carrabino boasts Harvard’s second-highest career scoring average at 18.4 points per game and claims a school record 708 career field goals.

Carrabino was a two-time first-team All-Ivy honoree and became Harvard’s first non-academic All-America selection since 1945-46 as an Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention during his senior campaign in 1984-85. He was also recognized as a CoSIDA first-team Academic All-American as a senior. For his on-court efforts, Carrabino was inducted into the Harvard Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 2002.

Following graduation with a bachelor’s degree in economics, Carrabino was selected in the sixth round of the NBA draft by the Denver Nuggets, and played overseas in both Belgium and Australia before entering the field of finance. Over the past 30 years, he has worked in both investment banking and private equity and is currently a partner at AEA Investors LP, one of the oldest private equity firms in the United States. Carrabino leads AEA’s private debt investment activities and serves on the investment committee of all AEA debt funds. Carrabino continues to contribute to Harvard Athletics in meaningful ways and has long served as a co-chair of the Friends of Harvard Basketball.
