Six Ivies Register Eight Wins to Highlight Second Week of Action

PRINCETON, N.J. – Cornell’s Matt Morgan was selected as Ivy League Player of the Week, while Harvard’s Danilo Djuricic earned Rookie of the Week.

LEAGUE NOTES:
  • The Ivy League owns .393 winning percent through two weeks of action, thanks in large part to six team's earning eight wins over the previous seven days. 
  • Cornell’s Matt Morgan was on fire this past week, averaging 24.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists for the Big Red. He topped 50-percent of his shots, including 44-percent from range on his way to entering the program’s top-20 career scoring charts.
  • Brown, which was edged by St. Francis Brooklyn in its last time out, is set for a gauntlet of four games in seven days around the Thanksgiving break. The Bears will square off with Stony Brook, LIU Brooklyn, Bryant and Rhode Island.
  • On his way to Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors, Harvard’s Danilo Djuricic registered a team- and season-high five blocks, to go along with a career-high 14 points in the loss at Holy Cross. He added 10 points and 2 rebounds versus Manhattan two days later.
  • After a tough overtime loss versus La Salle, Penn cruised to two victories over Navy, 66-45, and PSU-Brandywine, 99-40. The Quakers will look to keep rolling its fluid offense and tough defense in the Gulf Coast Showcase next week, starting with a bout against Northern Illinois.
  • Princeton struggled with two losses on the week, but junior Devin Cannaday was certainly a bright spot, scoring 19 and 22 points, respectively, against BYU and Saint Joseph’s.
  • After losses to two NCAA tournament teams from last season, Yale rebounded with a 2-1 week, including wins over South Carolina State and Curry. The 107-42 victory over Curry tied a school record with a 65-point margin of victory, matching its win over Oberlin College in 2013.
  • The Big Green collected its first victory of the year in a solid 78-43 victory over Division III Emerson. Freshman Chris Knight, who stands at 6-foot-7, paced Dartmouth with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting. When all was said, 12 members of the Big Green put points on the scoreboard in the complete win.
  • Columbia connected on 24 3-pointers last week, including a program record 16 triples in an 87-77 win at Longwood. A 10-2 run to close out the first half against Penn State kept things interesting, but the Lions ultimately fell to the Nittany Lions, 79-65.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Matt Morgan averaged 24.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists for the Big Red during a 1-2 week. Morgan hit 50 percent of his shots overall, 44 percent from the 3-point range and 87 percent from the line. The junior moved into the program’s top 20 career scorers during the week, netting at least 23 points in each of the team’s three games.
 
He opened the week with 26 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks in a home win over Binghamton, connecting on 4-of-6 shots from beyond the arc in a 94-84 triumph. The Big Red's 94 points were the program's most against a Division I team in a regulation game since posting a 96-76 victory over Dartmouth during the 2010-11 season. The Concord, N.C., had 23 points, five rebounds at Colgate and 25 points and four boards at UMass Lowell to close out the week.
 
Morgan, who has led the Ivy League in scoring in his previous two seasons, ranks among the national leaders in scoring (22.0 ppg.) and three-point field goals made (13, 3.3 per game). The junior has now registered seven career weekly honors.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Harvard’s Danilo Djuricic was a standout on both ends, averaging 12 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks on the weekend.
 
Djuricic scored in double figures in two-straight game, including a career-best 14 points at Holy Cross. The rookie also chipped in seven rebounds and five blocks, becoming the first player to reject five attempts since Zena Edosomwan ’17 did so at Penn a year ago. At Manhattan, the Brampton, Ontario, native, connected on 4-of-7 from the floor to turn in 10 points in 15 mintues of action.
 
This marks the first weekly award for Djuricic in 2017, and the second for the crimson as sophomore Bryce Aiken was named Player of the Week a week ago.
