PRINCETON, N.J. -- Familiar names sprinkled the list of postseason awards winners in Ivy League women's tennis for the 2015-16 with Columbia senior Kanika Vaidya named a unanimous selection as Player of the Year and first-team All-Ivy in singles, Harvard freshman Erica Oosterhout named Rookie of the Year and Princeton head coach Laura Granville named Coach of the Year for the second-straight year.
One of the hottest players in the country, Vaidya has earned victories in her last 18 singles matches, propelling the Singapore native to a 19-1 record this spring. The senior posted a perfect 7-0 mark during the Ivy League season, with four of those wins coming in straight sets. Vaidya was ranked as high as No. 26 this spring, making her biggest jump in the rankings after defeating No. 6 Stephanie Wanger from Miami (Fla.) back on March 14. Currently, Vaidya is slotted at the No. 43 spot in the ITA singles rankings.
Vaidya is the second Lion to be named Player of the Year, joining Nicole Bartnik who won the award in back-to-back seasons in 2011-12 and 2012-13.
Oosterhout (Tampa, Fla.) finished the season with a singles record of 22-11 overall and 5-2 in the Ancient Eight. Mostly playing in the No. 3 position, Oosterhout went 2-1 against nationally ranked opponents, earning victories over Wake Forest's No. 84 Kimmy Guerin and Boston College's No. 96 Asiya Dair. She was the only Crimson student-athlete to hold a winning record over nationally ranked players and finished second on the team in wins.
Oosterhout is the eighth Crimson player to be voted Rookie of the Year, joining Mylin Torres (1994-95), Ivy Wang (1995-96), Andrea Magyera (1998-99), Susanna Lingman (2001-02), Celia Durkin (2004-05), Laura Peterzan (2005-06) and Hideko Tachibana (2009-10).
Granville, in her fourth season leading the team, earned Coach of the Year honors for the second-straight year after winning the inaugural honor in 2015. The Tigers faced 14 ITA-ranked opponents this spring, including in each of their last four matches to close out the Ivy slate, winning five of their last six matches against ITA-ranked opponents.
Joining Vaidya as repeat unanimous first-team honorees in singles were a pair of juniors in Brown's Dayna Lord (Bloomfield, Conn.) and Dartmouth's Taylor Ng (Haddonfield, N.J.). Penn junior Kana Daniel (Valencia, Spain) and Princeton senior Amanda Muliawan (Wyckoff, N.J.) were along unanimous first-team picks. Cornell junior Marika Cusick (Hinsdale, Ill.) rounded out the first team in singles.
Lord, Ng and Daniel also received first-team recognition in doubles. Lord earned second-team honors as freshman and now garnered a spot on the first team paired with sophomore Alyza Benotto (Los Angeles). Ng and sophomore Kristina Mathis (Greer, S.C.) grabbed unanimous selection to the All-Ivy first team as duo for the second time in as many years, while Daniel teamed with senior Sonya Latycheva (Toronto) to earn a second first-team nod for each of them.
