PRINCETON, N.J. -- Everything is in place for
an exciting finish to the Ivy League baseball regular season.
In the Gehrig Division, Penn (19-12) remains in first-place with
an 11-1 Ivy record, two games in front of Columbia (16-15, 9-3 Ivy)
with eight League contests remaining, including a four-game set
between the two teams over the last weekend of the season.
Last week the Quakers took three of four from third-place team
Cornell (15-14, 6-6 Ivy), while the Lions swept Princeton (9-19,
4-6 Ivy). The Tigers have dropped their last six conference games
after opening the season 4-0 in conference play.
In the Rolfe Division, Yale (13-18, 6-6 Ivy) remains in
first-place despite dropping three of four to second-place
Dartmouth (10-17, 5-7 Ivy) last weekend. The Big Green swept
Saturday’s DH, 8-2 and 12-3, before splitting on Sunday,
losing 6-0 and winning 4-2.
Harvard (8-20, 3-7 Ivy), which will make up its double-header at
Princeton on Wednesday, stands in third-place in the Rolfe
Division, just ahead of Brown (8-17, 2-10 Ivy). The Bears split
with the Crimson last weekend to earn their first two Ivy victories
of the year.
On Saturday and Sunday, April 19-20, Brown will host Dartmouth and
Yale will welcome Harvard to New Haven, Conn., while Penn will face
Princeton and Columbia will travel to Cornell in a matchup of the
past two Ivy League Championship Series winners.
The Ivy League® Digital Network features all four
Gehrig Division games this weekend, as well as a free audio
broadcast of the Harvard at Yale series.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth junior second baseman Thomas Roulis
(New Hyde Park, N.Y.) led the Big Green in six games during the
week with a .385 average and 10 hits, scoring five runs and driving
in five more while not striking out in 26 at-bats. He also played
flawlessly in the field, extending his errorless streak to 39 games
and 188 chances.
At Boston College, Roulis stroked three hits with a double and
scored one of the Big Green's two runs in the 2-1 triumph. The next
day, he reached base three more times with two singles and a walk,
and his bunt single in the ninth started a four-run rally to lift
Dartmouth to an 8-7 win over Holy Cross. In the Big Green’s
double-header sweep of Yale on Saturday, Roulis batted 4-for-10
(.400) with a triple, two runs and four RBI.
Roulis takes home his first career Ivy League weekly award and
becomes the first Big Green to be named Player of the Week in
2014.

CO-PITCHERS OF THE WEEK
Brown junior Dave St. Lawrence (Thompson, Conn.)
and Yale sophomore Chris Lanham (Houston) each
went the distance in a shutout victory, as the Beats downed
Harvard, 1-0, and Yale defeated Dartmouth, 6-0.
St. Lawrence picked up his first win of the season, limiting the
Crimson to just four hits as he went all seven innings on the mound
for the shutout victory. He was in control throughout the entire
game, with no walks and no more than one hit allowed in any
inning.
St. Lawrence is the second Bear to be named Pitcher of the Week in
2014, joining Christian Taugner (March 11).
It’s the first time Brown has received two such honors in the
same season since 2012 (Matt Kimball and
Anthony Galan).

Lanham also allowed just four hits in seven innings of work,
striking out four and walking none in the shutout win. He retired
13-straight batters at one point during the game and allowed only
one runner into scoring position, but not until the final frame.
Lanham improved to 5-1 on the year and lowered his League-leading
ERA to 0.44.
Lanham receives his second Pitcher of the Week award of the
season, the first Bulldog to accomplish the feat since Josh
Sowers in 2005.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
After missing all of last season due to injury, Cornell sophomore
outfielder Jordan Winawer (Mountain View, Calif.)
did not see his first career collegiate action until the Big
Red’s 14th game of the 2014 campaign. He didn’t record
his first career start until last week, when he started all five
games, and his performance might make him a permanent starter.
Winawer batted .529 (9-for-17) with a double, three runs and two
RBI.
Winawer hit safely in all five games, including four multi-hit
performances, en route to his first career Ivy League weekly
award.
