ATHENS, Ga. -- Princeton junior Matija
Pecotic in singles and senior Hilary
Bartlett and freshman Lindsay Graff in
doubles begin their quest for individual titles this week at the
2012 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Tennis Championships at the
Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Pecotic face Florida's Nassim Slilam on
Wednesday, May 23 at 4 p.m. in the 64-player singles bracket. The
winner of their first-round match may face Southern California's
Steve Johnson, barring a first-round upset.
Johnson is the No. 1 overall seed and is leading the Trojans to a
potential fourth-straight NCAA team title in Tuesday's championship
match against Virgina.
Pecotic, the two-time Ivy League Men's Tennis Player of the
Year, was impressive in his junior season with a 28-4 overall
record, including 19-2 in dual matches and a perfect 7-0 at the No.
1 spot in dual matches against Ivy League opponents.
Bartlett and Graff hit the court on Thursday, May 24 at 4:30
p.m. to take on Stanford's Mallory Burdette and
Nicole Gibbs, the No. 2 seed in the 32-team
doubles bracket. In the women's team championship, Stanford lost to
Pacific-12 Conference rival USC in the quarterfinals.
Bartlett teamed with Graff this season and produced a
fourth-straight, first-team All-Ivy season. She is the sixth player
all-time to be named a part of a first-team All-Ivy doubles team
four times, following Yale's Connie Yowell
(1982-85) and Cindy Kuragami (1992-95), Harvard's
Kathy Vigna (1984-87) and Jamie
Henikoff (1988-91) and Princeton's Lauren
Fortgang (1989-92). Bartlett and Graff went 21-10 overall
in 2011-12 with a 14-6 dual match record and a 4-3 ledger in League
play as the Tigers' top doubles duo.
All matches in the individual championships will be the best of
three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games
all will be used for all matches.
The singles and doubles competitions begin following the team
championships and run through Monday, May 28.
