Five Ivies Earn Selection to the 2012 NCAA Women's Rowing Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division I Women's
Rowing Championships are going to have a strong Ivy League feel
once again as Brown, Cornell, Harvard (Radcliffe), Princeton and
Yale were announced among the 16-team field for the 2012
regatta.
The 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championships are slated
for May 25-27 at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J., with Rider
University and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference serving as
the hosts.
The five selections ties an Ivy League record as the conference
boasted five entries in the 2009 and 2011 championships. Defending
NCAA champion Brown and Princeton have made the championship field
as a team every year since the championship began in 1997.
Cornell, which finished second to Radcliffe for the Ivy title in
the varsity eight grand final at the League's inaugural women's
rowing championship is making its first-ever team appearance. The
Big Red's varsity eight received an at-large bid in 2002.
Radcliffe is appearing in its 13th as a team and 14th overall
NCAA championship as its varsity eight competed as an at-large in
the 1997 championship. Yale is making its 12th team appearance.
Each team in the national championship regatta is required to
field three boats -- varsity eight, second varsity eight and
varsity four.

Ivy League schools own eight of the 15 NCAA team titles (1999,
2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2011). Brown holds seven of
those titles (1999, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2011) with
Harvard winning it all in 2003.
Highlights of the Divisions I, II and III Women's Rowing
Championships will appear on the 2012 CBS Sports Presents
Championships of the NCAA (spring seasonal show), set to air at 4
p.m. ET, Sunday, June 17 on CBS.
