Columbia’s Katie Dempsey made 14 saves to help the Lions register a 2-1 victory over Cornell to remain undefeated in Ivy League action. Cornell fired off 27 shots, but Dempsey stood tall to help Columbia hold on for its fifth win in six games.
Dempsey made six stops before halftime to keep the Lions in front. With the Cornell net empty, the Chadds Ford, Pa., native came up with a big save with seven seconds remaining, and the Big Red were awarded back-to-back corners as time expired. However, the Lions’ back line held strong and blocked a pair of shots and cleared the offensive zone to preserve the win.
This marks the second weekly award for Columbia in 2017 as Dempsey joins teammate Maeve Doherty (Sept. 18).
